Summer Vacation Part 2
Thursday, June 29, 2006
Some of you may recall a post in May about a group of students that I took to the Louisiana State Jr. Beta convention where they won 1st place in one of the competitions. Well, yesterday we got back from the national convention in Greensboro, NC, and we had a blast. We were a little surprised that the kids didn't place because we thought they did a great job, but the loss didn't get them down at all. They were so happy to be on "vacation" together that they didn't even mind! :) Our trip was quite an adventure, especially when our flight up there was cancelled at the last minute due to United Airlines retiring some old equipment. It's not like it's easy to suddenly (an hour before a flight) reschedule 24 people on a new flight! We ended up having to go through Delta and Continental, and breaking up into several small groups. Our groups went through Houston, Miami, Cincinnati, Memphis, Washington D.C. and Atlanta, all to get to Greensboro, NC. We also landed in 3 different cities because there were only a few flights (and most of them full) into Greensboro. Our groups landed in Raleigh/Durham, Charlotte, and Greensboro. One of the dads who arrived at our hotel first, shuttled the rental van back and forth to 2 airports as the groups started to come in. The Charlotte group (which I was in) rented their own vehicle (with a driver) to make the 90 minute trip at 11:30 pm. One group got in at 3 AM, and a dad and son lost their tickets and ended up stranded in D.C. overnight! We thankfully all made it before the competition and the kids did really well. I am very proud of them. Even after all the craziness of Saturday's airline troubles, we had a great time shopping, bowling, and eating! :) I am so glad to be back home.
After leaving for 5 days to go to San Antonio for my anniversary, and now 4 days for this school trip, I was missing my kiddos! I'm glad to be back and happy that now summer vacation can officially begin since I am now done planning and coordinating this school trip. Now it's just me focusing on my family, and waiting for my niece to be born (due in a couple of weeks)!
We stuffed a lot of activities into this summer for the kids. This week and next week they go to swim lessons. This week until Thursday they also are going to Art Camp at the local high school. They are participating in the summer reading program at the library. And, in a couple of weeks Vacation Bible School will start. I'm glad to be able to do so much with them. I know the best case scenario would be to stay home with them all the time, but since that isn't feasible for my family, being a teacher is the next best thing. I love summer vacation!! :) :)
One more update: we are working very hard to potty train my little princess. We made it official today by putting her in "big girl panties". She didn't want to get Dora wet so she actually pottied tonight. I am so proud of her!! I can see the end of pull-ups in sight! :) Well, that's my update. How are all of you doing?
